Book Launch for Sheila Watson: Essays on Her Works

There will be a book launch for Sheila Watson: Essays on Her Works, a new book edited by Joseph Pivato and upcoming from Guernica Editions. The launch will take place at Audrey’s Books in Edmonton, on Wednesday April 15th at 7 pm. Audrey’s Books is located downtown, at 10702 Jasper Avenue.

Sheila Watson: Essays on Her Works is a collection of essays devoted to all of Watson’s writing as well as her work as editor and mentor. Sheila Watson published the iconic novel The Double Hook and influenced the styles of many Canadian authors who followed her, including Robert Kroetsch, Michael Ondaatje, George Bowering, Daphne Marlatt, and others. The collection of essays examines The Double Hook, but also her first novel Deep Hollow Creek, her short stories, and the McLuhan connection. Contributors to the book include Caterina Edwards, E.D. Blodgett, Mary G. Hamilton, George Melnyk, Margaret Morriss, Margot Northey, Glenn Willmott, and Sergiy Yakovenko. The collection also includes material from Watson herself, as well as contributions from Joseph Pivato.

Sheila Watson: Essays on Her Works was edited by Joseph Pivato, who has been a Professor of English and Humanities at Athabasca for many years and a visiting professor at other universities. He has done original research in ethnic minority writing and the history of Italian-Canadian writing. He has also written: Contrasts: Comparative Essays on Italian-Canadian Writing, Echo: Essays on Other Literatures, The Anthology of Italian-Canadian Writing, and was a contributor to Pier Giorgio Di Cicco’s Roman Candles.
