Jüri Talvet Launches SNOW DRIFTS, I SING at Tartu College Oct. 8th & 10th

Jüri Talvet is launching Snow Drifts, I Sing (Guernica 2013). Translated by Talvet and H.L. Hix, the book is a bilingual Estonian-English edition of Juhan Liiv’s selected poetry. Liiv was arguably Estonia’s greatest poet.

The Estonian Studies Centre (ESC) resides inside Tartu College, which is located in downtown Toronto near the University of Toronto (310 Bloor Street West). Both of these organizations are owned and managed by the Estonian community in Toronto.
The ESC’s aim is to preserve, promote, research, hold lectures on various topics related to subjects with Estonian themes. We are the academic and cultural centre of Estonian activities in Toronto, and I would suggest even Canada. As such we have a 7,000 sf archive and a paid archivist from Estonia to manage our collection, we  have two libraries (a lending and an archival) with over 10,000 publications, a heritage society videotaping people’s historical recollections and much more. We also own the weekly Canadian-Estonian newspaper Eesti Elu and its website: .
