Saturdays at Portobello – an Afternoon of Words and Music

We are pleased to announce that on Saturday, April 6th, 2013 from 1:30pm-4:30pm, Ellen S. Jaffe will be the feature poet reading at the Portobello Restaurant & Bar on Bay Street as a part of the Words and Music Series.

The afternoon is organized by Peter Solmes and Linda Stitt, and also features musician Aynsely Saxe, guest author K. D. Miller, guest musician Glen Hornblast, guest storyteller Ariel Balevi, and guest poet Nik Beat.

Ellen S. Jaffe’s works include a young-adult novel, Feast of Lights (Sumach Press, 2006), a poetry  collection, Water Children (Mini Mocho Press, 2002), and Writing Your Way: Creating a Personal Journal (Sumach Press, 2001). Two of her books and one individual poem have received awards from Arts Hamilton (formerly the Hamilton & Region Arts Council). Her writing has been published in journals including Fireweed, Capilano Review, Kaleidoscope, CV 2, and Kairos, and in various anthologies.

Aynsley Saxe’s feature single, Stop, Drop & Roll (The Fireman Song) was released in November 2012 as a CD single & free digital download. Even before the recording was finished, its teaser preview on YouTube attracted over 850 views and a tv commercial licensing deal for the Saskatchewan Professional Fire Fighters Calendar. The commercial will air provincially from October through December on Global TV to raise money for the Burn Fund. Aynsley has a forthcoming release, Take Me As I Am.

With this fantastic line-up, the afternoon is sure to be a huge success and incredibly entertaining. Mark it down in your calendars now!

It would like to be gratefully acknowledge that Ellen S. Jaffe’s reading is funded by the League of Canadian Poets and the Toronto Arts Council and, in celebration of National Poetry Month, the support of the Canada Council for the Arts and the League of Canadian Poets for Nik Beat’s reading is also acknowledged.
