Gianna Patriarca Featured in New Documentary

Filmmaker Adriana Monti has put together a new documentary, Three Women, Adapting Lives, Adopting Lines, which tells the story of Italian women who immigrated to Canada and how new identities emerged during their adaptation process. In the film, Guernica poet Gianna Patriarca reflects on her own experience coming to Canada in 1960 and working first as a schoolteacher and later as an accomplished writer and poet. The documentary reveals how various challenges stimulated the women into crossing the boundaries that had held back many of their predecessors.

The documentary will air on OMNI TV on March 13 at 9:00 pm, with an Italian version airing March 20 at 4:00 pm.

What My Arms Can Carry, Patriarca’s most recent poetry collection, was published by Guernica in 2005.
