The Orillia Packet & Times reports that Guernica author Desi Di Nardo has organized a poetry contest for high school students in the Simcoe County District School Board, Toronto District School Board and Toronto Catholic District School Board. Students are invited to submit up to three poems in any style, from which winners will be selected to receive gift certificates from sponsoring bookseller, Book City. The event is part of the Poetry Parade, hosted by Di Nardo and Pierre DesRuisseaux, Canada’s Poet Laureate.

“Some students have an interest in self-expression, whether it’s other writing or poetry,” Di Nardo tells the Packet & Times. “If you don’t document it and you don’t put it out there, you don’t get the feedback and you don’t know if it’s good stuff.”
