Congratulations are in order for Guernica translator Margita Gailitis, who has been awarded the President’s Order of the Three Stars for her work on behalf of Latvian culture. The Latvian Order of Three Stars was established in 1924 in commemoration of the establishment of the independent Latvian state and was reinstated in the wake of the Soviet occupation in 1994. The Order of Three Stars is the highest state honour in Latvia.
Margita’s most recent work is a translation of Edvins Raups‘ poetry collection then touch me here, published by Guernica this spring. You can congratulate Margita in person when she and Edvins take part in events in Montreal, Ottawa and Toronto later this month in support of then touch me here.
