We have a few big events planned for this year’s Blue Metropolis International Literary Festival in Montreal. You have two great choices for Friday, April 29. Up first is Poets at Night: Changing Lands, Eclectic Voices 6 PM. The event will feature Guernica translator Margita Gailitis and authors Oliver Scharpf and Edvins Raups alongside Coach House Books authors Gabe Foreman, Aurian Haller and Andrea Moorhead. At the same time, we have Suzanne Robertson and Bianca Lakoseljac taking part in From Manuscript to Publication: A Quattro/Guernica Forum.
On Sunday, May 1 at 1 PM we will be launching our international translations A Choice of Uppercuts, Then Touch Me Here and Angelina’s Lips in an event hosted by our own Connie Guzzo-McParland and Michael Mirolla. Swiss poet Oliver Scharpf, Latvian poet Edvins Raups and his translator, Margita Gailitis, and translator of Italian poet Giuseppe Conte, Robert Buranello will read from the new publications. Oliver Scharpf will read and engage in conversation with Quebec poet Madeleine Gagnon and others on April 28, 6 PM at the Istituto Italiano di Cultura, 1200 Dr. Penfield Avenue in Montreal in collaboration with the Swiss General Consulate.
The Ottawa launch of then touch me here, featuring readings by Raups, Gailitis and Michael Mirolla, will take place on May 3 at 7 PM. The event will take place at the Peace Latvian Lutheran Church, 83 Main Street and has been sponsored by the Latvian Embassy and Latvian Heritage Society. Please RSVP email@example.com.
On May 8 Guernica will host the Toronto launch of then touch me here from 4 – 6 PM at Bar Italia, 582 College St. Come by and meet Edvins Raups and Margita Gailitis and enjoy readings, a live performance by musician Phoebe Tsang, refreshments and mingling with book lovers in the heart of Little Italy. All are welcome!
